I couldn’t be more pleased with how well my workouts went this week. And it wasn’t an easy week, either. Nor were the temperatures cooperative–seriously, 90 degrees on Oct. 5 and 6? Digressing.
Going into this week I was dreading my long run, to be honest. After feeling pretty cruddy after my last 20, I was a bit apprehensive about this weekend’s 22 with intervals in the middle miles. It was coming after two tough workouts on Tuesday and Friday and I knew I was going into it tired. And when I saw the forecast, the negative thoughts started creeping in.
But I surprised myself, having no problem nailing my intervals and even feeling pretty decent for the remaining seven miles after. I think that now that I have adjusted to speedwork again, the MAF foundation I have built is helping me push through the hard work much easier than I did last spring when doing similar workouts. That feels pretty good, let me tell you!
If a great week of training wasn’t enough, I got to meet up with Michele from NYCRunningMama on Sunday! Her husband was here in town doing the Rev3/Half Full Triathlon (half IM distance). We hooked up for about three of each of our six recovery miles with one each of our children in tow. It was so great to see her cheerful, positive face and get a chance to chat for a bit. I’m hoping her husband had a good race, in spite of the beastly heat.
I’m resting up today, ready to recharge and take on another tough week of training. Six weeks until Richmond–hard to believe it is that close!
Who’s ready for Fall to return? Who else went long this weekend?
