What a great weekend away! All the right elements were in place–hanging with a great friend, a spectacular setting (Utah), some gorgeous runs, and catching up on sleep. The thin air? Maybe not my favorite part, but I survived!
This was my first trip to Utah, and wow–I had no idea it was that beautiful. As Jess, who I was visiting said, her life there has felt like one long vacation. I think living in that kind of spectacular setting has to feel a bit surreal.
We covered Salt Lake City, Park City, and the Olympic sites, where we got to see freestyle skiers in the midst of some training runs. They are pretty amazing, by the way. The runs were fantastic, too—how could they not be? We hit trails and for Saturday’s long run that included some 12 miles of specific pace work, a dirt rail trail in Park City. This made the going much easier on my sea level lungs.
It was so good to check in on Jess and see her new life, not just hear about it. The reality is that we could have been anywhere and would have been happy just to catch up, but it was that much better for it to have been in that amazing setting. And luckily, I (and all my running group) get to see Jess again at Thanksgiving when she heads our way–can’t wait!
Now back to my family (who I missed like crazy) and a few weeks of heavy duty marathon training, as well as the final push on the Run With CSE blog toward the Baltimore Marathon, which is less than two weeks away. We’re chatting with the founders of Team in Training today, if you want to head on over there.
Who else has been to Utah and loved it? Fellow mamas–do you do well away from your offspring?
