For quite some time, I’ve envied those of you who have found that one perfect running shoe. While I love to try new shoes, I’ve been longing to play Cinderella and find my own glass slipper. I think, perhaps, that I am finally there.
I’ve been running in the Brooks Pure Drifts for a few months now. They are zero drop without the insole, and light as a feather. I loved them the first time I put them on. I’ve tried lots of other zero drop shoes and liked them just fine, but none has been the perfect shoe for 100 percent of my runs.
So for almost two years now, I have been trying to wean myself to zero drop all the time–for my long runs and maybe one other each week, I’d still put on the Pure Connects with a four mm drop. With the Pure Drifts, I’ve finally been able to make that move and now run all of my runs in them. I’ve been up to a 16-miler in them, so my hope is that I’ll be able to wear them for my fall marathon, too.
What put this pair over the top for me? I love the wide toe box, the flexibility of the sole, the tiny touch of cushioning, and just their overall perfect fit for my foot. No other shoe has quite matched it on all these levels before. And if you’re wondering why I was so determined to get to 100 percent zero drop, I can tell you that I definitely run more efficiently in them, for one. Secondly, for whatever reason, I tend to get occasional top-of-foot pain in the Pure Connects–my guess is that they are too cushy for my feet. The Drifts eliminate that for me.
So now that I have the perfect shoe, I’m left with one concern–will Brooks continue this model long term? While it seems that everyone I know is in the Pure line, I don’t know anyone else wearing the Drifts. Which means I need you all to go out and buy some to show Brooks that it’s worth keeping this shoe in the line up! : )
Have you found your one and only shoe? Anyone else in the Drifts?
