Is it raining? That doesn’t matter. Am I tired? That doesn’t matter, either. Then willpower will be no problem.–Emil Zatopek

Once you’re beat mentally, you might as well not even go to the starting line.–Todd Williams

All taken from the chapter titled “Motivation, Positive Thinking,” in 1,001 Pearls of Runners’ Wisdom, edited and introduced by Bill Katovsky. This little book is full of fantastic quotes and what I like best is that Bill divided them up into topical chapters, such as “Why We Run,” “Women Only,” “Training,” and “Racing,” among others. He also adds a small introduction to each chapter, setting the tone for what’s to come. I can’t imagine there’s a runner out there who wouldn’t enjoy having this on his/her bookshelf.

If you’d like your own copy, you can find it on Amazon in both hard cover and Kindle versions. You can also donate to my fundraising campaign for the Ulman Cancer Fund. Every $10 you donate gets you a chance to win a spectacular pile of running goodies, including this book, which I’ll be raffling off in mid-August. I’d love your help!

And if you’re a female and you haven’t heard yet, Zooma is going to be revealing a new race location tomorrow. Check out this video for all the details, and go here for a chance to win a swag bag from the mystery location:

Great quotes, I especially love “Am I tired? That doesn’t matter, either” as I have been really sluggish lately and if I decided not to run each morning I’m feeling that way, I would not be running at all. So I push myself to get out the door and get those first few miles under my legs and then all of a sudden I feel better! So this quote will be my new saying to myself in the mornings.
