Monday Miscellany

I’m loving my new 20/15 vision but am definitely getting the itch to go out and train. A few more days…

In the meantime, I’ve got some fun stuff going on. I told you a couple of months ago about the photo shoot my friends and I were involved in for a local women’s magazine. The issue came out the other day and I think the picture turned out pretty cool–take a look.

23473 106010852773528 106010686106878 41473 8340025 n Monday MiscellanyI’m also excited because I won a free entry to the DC edition of the Naked Foot 5k at the end of June! I had my eye on this race anyhow and then got lucky enough to win an entry from fellow FitFluential ambassador MFDRE.  The course isn’t revealed until the morning of the race and it promises to involve some cross country miles. Runners are encouraged to run either in minimalist shoes or completely bare foot. I think I’m going for the full monty on this one. I’ve put in enough miles in my Altra Zero Delilahs to feel that my feet are strong enough, plus I spend the majority of my time in my bare feet even when not running. I’ll probably do a little bit of bare foot running in between now and then to further prepare. I’m excited for this one!

And speaking of cross country–our running club, along with local race promotor Bullseye Running, puts on a six-week cross country series over the summer. The events are held on Friday nights at local high schools. Do three of the six and you get a free tech shirt. The best part? Entry is only $5. I plan to get my kids out there for several of them, beginning this Friday. Good stuff.

Anyone else running one of the Naked Foot 5k events? How about here in DC?

Congrats on a successful surgery!! Glad to hear that it went well and that you are recovering already!! I can imagine that the hardest part is going to be the required week off from any type of working out!! I would say enjoy the free time, but I never know what to do with myself when I’m forced to take time off!!

  26. You all look screaming fast in that photo! And I’d totally do the race barefoot, too, if I could be sure that *none* of it would be on concrete. I took a barefoot walk up my street two nights ago (all fired up by Running with the Kenyans) and won’t be doing that again. Every step, whether I was in the street or on the sidewalk, seemed to bring small pebbles digging into my flesh–I was walking so slowly the whole time!! I love barefoot running on grass, but…you won’t seeing me doing it on asphalt or concrete! Good luck with the full monty!

  34. Congrats on the magazine feature and the 5K entry! I don’t know if I could stand to go completely barefoot myself… I’m too clumsy as is so I’m sure my feet would find some sharp debris to hurt myself on. I don’t know if the series takes place down here in ATL but I’ll keep my eye out. But I’ll also keep a little rubber under my feet, I think!
