Who’s old enough to remember that one? Was it Cory Hart who sang it?
Anyhow…got my LASIK surgery done yesterday and I am indeed sporting the sunglasses 24/7, inside and out for two days. Small price to pay, though, because I can see! It’s pretty strange, actually, to be able to see so well without contacts or glasses. Everyone told me I’d come home from the procedure, take my nap, and then be able to see, but I don’t think I quite believed it until I experienced it.
The procedure couldn’t have been easier. About 15 minutes total, easy peasy. No pain, just a bit of pressure. To me, this was a far easier experience than a root canal!
Now comes the hard part–no exercise for a week. That even includes strength training. I am allowed to walk, however, so I’m thinking maybe a few hikes and a couple of long walks might help take the edge off. I honestly can’t remember a time in my life (well, college!) where I didn’t do some sort of exercise for an entire week. It won’t be fun!
Besides that, though, I’d recommend this procedure to anyone. My only regret is not having done this sooner.
Have you had or ever considered LASIK?

I REMEMBER IT!
and I consider lasik all the time.
each night
every summer.
for me Im just to scared…

I’m glad you got this done. I know a few people that had it done and they are all so happy. Enjoy the week’s rest and then you can start training again while seeing all the great views.

Oh awesome! I can’t even imagine what it’d be like to open my eyes each morning and just see!

Many congrats on a successful Lasik! I wish my husband could get this, but he’s been told he can’t (something to do with his corneas). I am sure this will be a huge help when it comes to fitness. I’m lucky to have pretty good eyesight and I can only image what those who have to deal with contacts and glasses must go through. Enjoy your “new ways”!

I remember the song…and it was Corey Hart. My last name was Hart so it sounded like his. I’m so glad your surgery went well. Hopefully this week goes by quickly for you!

I would love to do Lasik, but can’t justify the price. I feel like the craziest would be waking up in the middle of the night to pee or waking up in the morning and automatically being able to see.

My bro had it done and his eyes were like bloody looking (bloodshot?) afterward. It kind of freaked me the heck OUT!!
I know that song. My college roomie loved 80s music and got me hooked. She hated that song though. It used to terrify her as a child. LOL

I have considered it, but my opto says with my eyes it’s trading one nuisance for another.

I am constantly considering lasik. I have horrible vision and it would be so nice not to have to buy contacts or glasses constantly. One day…

Glad to hear everything went well! I’ve never had lasik and have no need but it sounds like something that I’d definitely have done if I was a full-time glasses wearer.
I have been considering LASIK surgery as well but wondered how I would handle a procedure where I had to be awake. Glad to hear that everything went well. It is going to be nice to not have to worry about messing with contacts or glasses. Congratulations!
Glad it went well. Enjoy the rest!

Happy for you new-found vision!
I have considered it before but the side effects and how I have bad luck scare me.
So happy for you! I cannot imagine just waking up in the morning and being able to see without reaching over for glasses or getting up to put contacts in!
strange how some doctors are so different. Hubby had it last week and had to wear eye shields home and for the first night bt no sunglasses for any length of time. He had to take a 3 hour nap but thats it. He could workout after the first day, but no swimming for two weeks!

That’s exciting to be able to see without any aids!
Good luck with your week; enjoy the hiking and walking.
I am so stoked for you!! Isn’t it awesome? When I woke up walked into the living room at like 10pm and there was a basketball game on, I sat on the couch and was shocked. I could see the score of the game!!!
AMAZING procedure! I still get shocked at some of the things I can see and sometimes things almost seem to shout at me they seem so big and clear. Love it!
Rest up. There is a whole new world out there to see!

The only negatives I’ve heard about Lasik is that some people see raibow auras around lights, so they can’t drive at night. Sounds kind of cool actually.

Oh yeah, I remember that song well!
I’ve heard so many good things about Lasik (my dad loved it), but the no exercise for a week thing makes me almost OK with knowing I won’t be able to do it for a while.

Yes, I have considered it…but decided it would reduce my quality of life. Here is why:
I am very nearsighted (-6 dipopters), glass correct well, contacts correct well.
I am 56 and so have presbyopia
I’m a good candidate for Lasik. Pupils not too big, plenty of cornea thickness.
But, I decided not to get it. The reason is that I do a lot of close work. I can take off my classes and look at things very up close.
If I got lasik, looking at stuff outdoors would be great, but looking at things up close would require reading glasses or a jeweler’s loup.
I ‘mocked up’ life with Lasik by putting in my disposable contacts and walking around with reading glasses for a day. It drove me nuts.
If the current Lasik had existed when I was 30 I would have done it… there were a lot of decades until the presbyopia
. But alas, I’m not 30.
If I worked outdoors for a living I would also still do it. But I don’t and I really need to do close work too often.
Hope this information is useful to somebody….

I’m old enough to remember that song and also a very satisfied Lasik recipient. I has my surgery over two years ago and my only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner. I love not having to wear glasses or contacts especially during winter sports. I wrote a post about my Lasik experience back in Dec. 09. Enjoy the sights you’ll see without having to fumble for your specs

My husband sings that song all the time… but only knows one line… so he just repeats it over and over.
I will definitely get lasik when my eyesight goes. It’s only a matter of time, as both my parents wound up needing glasses. And I don’t want to turn into my mother, fumbling for my glasses every time I need to read a label or find the “guide” button on the remote control.

When i have read the title of your story then it was very strange to me but after reading your story i have knew that wearing sun glass 24/7 was necessary for you for your LASIK surgery. I know about LASIK. Its a great surgery for eye treatment.

I’m glad your surgery went well. I’ve considered it before but my vision is just annoyingly bad – 20/50. I can even drive without my glasses if I have to. So it has never made it to the top of the priority list.

wow that’s an exciting change. I’ve always wanted to do it and would sign up in a heart beat if I qualified. Apparently though my eyes are too steep in the back and the lasers can’t read ‘em to do what they need to do. Can’t wait to see how you like it in the long run
i’ve thought about it but i’m too scared still! i hope you’ll tell us more about how it went and the recovery. hope all is well, 20/20 vision and all!
