Three for Thursday

A 5k would be the longest she's run

I seem to be stuck in alliteration hell this week with Wordless Wednesday and now Three Things Thursday. Or maybe I’m just being lazy. Anyhow, read on for my random three:

1. Did a short run with my daughter last night while my son did his own (faster) short run. They both want to run their school’s 5k in about three weeks. Not sure that I have given my stamp of approval to the seven-year old doing it, but if she can get mileage in a couple times a week until then, I will let her.

2. Thanks to all of your supportive comments on my post Tuesday. You guys prove your kindness over and over again. Many of you asked if I was running on a team for the virtual run. The answer is yes–I’m going to join up with Harmony’s team. Jen from Miles, Muscles, and Mommyhood, also has a team going, and Laura from Mom, Wife, Athlete, is doing the real deal, running across the country. All are good options to support if you’re interested.

3. Interestingly, all of these ladies happen to be FitFluential ambassadors like me. I really love this group–real diversity and strength in the areas of fitness and nutrition. I learn something new from these ambassadors every day. If you’d like to be a part of it, they’re currently looking for more good bloggers to join the crew. Check it out here.

Oh, and one more thing (there goes the alliteration)–I’m joining the crew over at iRunnerBlog, where you’ll find my first post up today. Go give it some love, please!

I’m just mulling over how you’ll alliterate Friday – fantastic fabulous Friday if it’s good or four-letter Friday if it’s bad.

  3. Brent and I have dreams of having kids who want to run around with us, but I can see the challenge in trying to figure out when is the right time. Hope she ends up sticking with the mileage, if only to see the pictures of a seven-year-old finishing a 5k :)

That’s great that your peeps want to run their school’s 5k, and super great that your school has a 5k for them to run.

I’ll head over and check out the iRunnerBlog. Sounds cool.

Looks like your daughter is all about running-and you set a good example for her. I’ll admit, I didn’t even know what 5k was when I was 7!

That’s why I never got into the who recurring themed posts (except my own Flashback Friday, of course). I think it stifles creativity. No offense to others who partake, it’s just not my thing. To me, it makes them all run together. Cheers!

  11. That’s some incredible drive that your seven year old wants to do the 5K! I’d probably feel similar to you– a touch of reservation, but I’d probably support her if she’s super dedicated to it and wants to put in the work.

I love that your 7yo wants to do the 5k, (although I too would have reservations about her actually doing it). My 10yo is still in the sprint and die stage.

My kids run with me and I absolutely love it (especially my son, he would drive me NUTS if we didn’t have such an easy, anytime energy outlet). She can do the 5K, just keep her at a conversational pace and let her walk/run it as she sees best.

  15. I keep trying to get my twins to run – they’ve done a few races here and there – but, they just don’t want to. They will crew for me, but getting them out on the course is another thing, So cool to see your kids running :)

FYI – My daughter will be 8 this month and did her first 5K last summer (with no training really). I figured we’d walk what we had to (which we did when she got a side stitch). She went out way too fast (though it was downhill at the start and hard not to). She did it in 46 min I think (as her walking was much slower). She did her 2nd 5K in December and shaved 10 min I think for a nice PR. She wants to do the St. Pat’s 5K now, but wants to run with the dad that paced her for the Jingle Bell run. LOL I’ll have to see if he is available (a classmate’s dad).
