When it comes to running shirts, there’s one feature that puts them over the top for me–pockets. I am not one to wear fuel belts, etc., but I do need to stash stuff, namely gels and keys, on long runs. So when I come across a piece that offers both style and pockets, it has my heart.
YMX by Yellowmangives me both features. They recently sent me their tribal tee to try out and as you can see, it scores in the design department. I love the funky pattern along with the vibrant colors. The material is thin and silky and
provides an SPF of 30. The matching arm warmers? Awesome bonus. And when the temps start to rise, just pull them off and stash them in the pocket in back.
One drawback, however, is that this material is perhaps too thin. I’m not so sure the arm warmers would actually warm if the temps were dipping down very low. And while I heat up easily and like a thinner shirt in warm temps, I’d probably rather go with something sleeveless than sleeves in that material. The shirt can be bought for $69 and the arm warmers for $32, another potential drawback.
Yellowman initially sent me a cycling jersey and “bolero” to review as well. I contacted them to say that with my running niche here at MZ, I thought going with a running tee would be a better idea. They agreed but also allowed me to keep the cycling set–score! The cycling jersey, which they call the maori dragon, features another great design and an SPF protection of 50. I could definitely see wearing this over and over again when the temperatures rise. The bolero? Not so much. It’s a cute idea, but once again, the thin material makes it impractical. For those looking to make a fashion statement, however, the look is probably a win.
