One Fish, Two Fish,….stop me! My kids are on spring break, remember? And my daughter is currently addicted to reading Dr. Seuss books out loud, so I can’t help myself.
Old Giveaway–According to random.org, the winner of Marshall Ulrich’s new book, Running on Empty is Elle at Eat Run Sail. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll get you squared away.
New Giveaway–Jamie at CEP sent me a pair of their compression socks for review and she’s nice enough to offer a second pair for a giveaway.
Here’s what CEP has to say about their socks: The CEP compression sports socks are the first functional sport socks with a unique compression profile that provides a scientifically proven increase in blood circulation and a consequent increase in performance. The socks offer a 3-D fit, meaning that they adjust to the anatomy of the leg and foot for a perfect fit thanks to the three-dimensional manufacturing process. They help prevent shin splits, Achilles issues, fatigue, blisters, and micro muscle tears.
With my attempts at better running form, I have had some sore calf muscles of late, so the idea of compression socks definitely appealed. I tried the socks both on a run and afterward. While I liked the support they provided on the run, I overheated in them. I know lots of people can handle the extra coverage and not get too hot, but I’m not one of them. That’s too bad for me, because CEP says that a recent study showed that runners had a 5 percent improvement in race times when wearing compression gear.
While compression wear is not for me during a run, I do like the socks for post-run. Anything to help my aching calf muscles gets a thumbs up from me, and I felt these helped. I stuck them on right after a shower and kept them on all day. My legs felt better at the end of the day than when I first finished my run.The socks will become a staple in my post long-run or race routine in the future.
